Norman Einstein, eh? … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 400 of The Daily Dirt.

1. Yes, football season is full go on all fronts — high school, college and finally the NFL.

But sometimes the best part of football season is not produced between the goal lines, it’s what some of the game’s players say after what transpired on the field, specifically in the NFL.

Gold medal: Former NFL quarterback and TV analyst Joe Theismann will never live down one particular comment he made — and for good season. Who can ever forget Theismann informing us, “Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.”

Silver medal: “Some people say I’ll be drafted in the first round, maybe even higher.” — Craig “Ironhead” Heyward. (Yeah, like Theismann, ole Ironhead never lived down that observation.”

Bronze medal: “I want to rush for 1,000, or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first.” — George Rogers. (You know that emoji that has the guy slapping his forehead? If I could, I would insert that right about now.)

2. Earlier this week, Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina worked together for a record 325th time as MLB battery mates.

Who did they surpass to claim that mark? Mickey Lolich and Bill Freehan (who was Mike Matheny’s coach at the University of Michigan) were starting pitcher and catcher 324 times during their careers.

For trivia buffs, the No. 3 spot belongs to Warren Spahn and Del Crandall (316 games), followed by Red Faber and Ray “Cracker” Schalk (301).

3. My top NFL teams after week one:

1. Kansas City (1-0): Patrick Mahomes should have to throw left-handed a minimum of two quarters each game. That would only be fair.

2. Buffalo (1-0): No one ever seems to take the Bills THAT seriously. Maybe we should.

3. Tampa Bay (1-0): Tom’s another year closer to Social Security and Gisele’s unhappy with his decision to play one more year. I don’t think Tom cares what Gisele thinks.

4. Minnesota Vikings (1-0): Anyone else remember Joe Kapp?

5. Los Angeles Chargers (1-0): In the long run, I think the Rams will be the best team coming out of Los Angeles.
