Don't bother looking for deep dish pizza when traveling abroad. Then again, don't bother looking for it unless you are in Chicago. — wikipedia

Deep dish pizza your favorite? Better get your fill before you leave the country … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 1,064 of The Daily Dirt

1. There are some American products extremely difficult to find abroad, such as:

  • Deep dish pizza, which was invented in Chicago, is virtually impossible to find outside the U.S.
  • Macaroni and cheese, which first appeared in 1937 thanks to Kraft, has never caught on outside our borders.
  • Tostitos chips and salsa are a highly popular combo in the U,.S., but outside the U.S. that duo can only be found in Singapore and the Philippines.
  • York Peppermint Patties are not popular outside the U.S.
  • Grilled cheese sandwiches, traditionally made with white sandwich bread and American cheese and born in the 1930s, are difficult to come across in their truest form anywhere else in the world but America.
  • Strangely, Jell-O, the popular American snack and/or dessert, has little or no following outside the U.S.
  • “Biscuits” mean different things in different countries, but none resemble what Americans refer to by that name.
  • Curly fries have been around in the U.S. since the 1940s, but are rarely sold outside the states.
  • Ranch dressing is rarely available beyond U.S. borders.
  • Smores are rarely featured outside the U.S. (Graham crackers are extremely rare abroad.)
  • Peanut butter and peanut butter products are extremely difficult to find in foreign countries. So much for those Reese Cups and similar sweets.

2. Did you know (Part 127)

  • That according to Social Security (ssa.gov), the most popular names for baby boys born in the U.S. are currently Liam, Noah, Oliver, James and Elijah. And for girls? How about Olivia, Emma, Charlotte, Amelia and Sophia.
  • That the most popular names for boys bornin England are currently: Noah, Oliver, George, Arthur and Muhammad. For the girls, it’s Olivia, Amelia, Isla, Ava and Ivy.
  • That the worst-looking MLB uniforms, according to justbaseball.com, are: 1. Tampa Bay, 2. Houston, 3. Cleveland, 4. Washington, 5. Cincinnati.
  • That the best-looking MLB uniforms, according to justbaseball.com, are: 1. St. Louis, 2. Oakland, 3. San Francisco, 4. Chicago Cubs, 5. Los Angeles Dodgers.
  • That the most overrated actors of all time, according to imdb.com are: 1. Leonardo DiCaprio, 2. Johnny Depp, 3. Nicolas Cage, 4. John Wayne, 5. Adam Sandler.

3. The best of this week’s “Found on Facebook”:

  • “I talk an awful lot of smack for someone who tips over when putting in their underwear.”
  • “WEBSITE: We use cookies to improve your performance. ME: Same.”
  • “Chuck Norris can sketch your picture with an eraser.”
  • “People have been eating bread for more than 10,000 years. And now, in less than a decade, it seems like everyone is allergic to gluten.”
  • “Sir, if I am to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.”

Steve Thought O’ The Day — So, to summarize … ranch dressing, curly fries, Jell-O, peanut butter, deep dish pizza, mac and cheese, smores and grilled cheese sandwiches are extremely difficult (if at all) to find outside the U.S. What has happened to the world in which we live?

Steve Eighinger writes daily for Muddy River News. I really don’t anticipate Steve traveling abroad any time soon.
