Daily Dirt for July 16, 2021
by Steve Eighinger
Just think, in five months or so we’re likely to be complaining about how cold it is. So I don’t want to hear any negative remarks about July temperatures. Here are the day’s three thoughts to keep your mind off the thermometer. This is Vol. 8:
1. Happy birthday to actress Phoebe Cates, who made “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” a movie worth seeing over and over and over … and for the record, Phoebe turns 57 today.
2. Weirdest ice cream flavors? How about these two:
A. “Booger,” offered at The Ice Cream Store in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
B. “Cicada,” featured at Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream in Columbia, Mo.
3. A few interesting facts you may not know about Walmart:
A. A typical Walmart supercenter sells approximately 120,000 items, compared to the 35 million products sold in Walmart’s online store.
B. The state with the most Walmarts, as of January 2021, is Texas with 602. Illinois is No. 6 with 191, Missouri No. 9 with 158.
C. The largest Walmart in the nation is a two-story, 260,000-square-foot operation inside the Crossgate Commons shopping plaza in Albany, N.Y. The average Walmart store is about 180,000 square feet.
