Daily Dirt for July 20, 2021
by Steve Eighinger
It’s always a challenge to cram as much info as possible into the Daily Dirt. Well, we’ve succeeded again in Vol. 12:
1. It’s been 29 years since “Some Gave All” was released, the Billy Ray Cyrus patriotic anthem, and I’m not ashamed to admit I still love that song. (“Achy Breaky Heart, however, is another matter …)
2. If I had the power, here are the first five television series I would cancel:
A. “The Voice” (NBC): It has overstayed its welcome.
B. “The Bachelorette” (ABC): Enough is enough is enough.
C. “The Goldbergs” (ABC): Ugh. Simply, ugh.
D. “The Masked Singer” (Fox): This gimmick is long overdue for the axe.
E. “Shark Tank” (ABC): Yawn ….
3. My favorite nicknames of current MLB players:
A. “El Nino”: Fernando Tatis Jr. is the future of baseball. Get used to seeing that smile — a lot.
B. “Bringer of Rain”: I really hope Josh Donaldson has a monstrous second half of the season, just so we can hear more references to this moniker
.C. “The Throwin’ Samoan”: Sure, the old 1970s quarterback Jack Thompson had it first, but Oakland A’s pitcher Sean Manaea will likely have a better overall career.
