Alicia Silverstone in "Clueless"

Daily Dirt for Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022

Well, don’t totally forget Halloween. There’s food involved with that celebration, too … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 410 of The Daily Dirt.

1. It’s the first day of October, a month best known for Halloween — which we will have some fun with in the coming days — but other things make this month memorable, too. Such as:

  • Mean Girls Appreciation Day, Oct. 3: Required viewing on this day is a showing of 1995’s “Clueless” starring Alicia Silverstone.
  • Cinnamon Roll Day, Oct. 4: Never met a cinnamon roll that I didn’t like. No reason to limit this celebration to just one day.
  • National Angel Food Cake Day, Oct. 10: A very underrated cake that goes especially well with fresh strawberries and/or whipped cream.
  • National Dessert Day, Oct. 14: Never met a dessert I didn’t like. No reason to limit this celebration to just one day.
  • National Pasta Day, Oct. 17: On this day I will make a pilgrimage to Tiramisu in downtown Quincy for an order of ravioli salsa rosa.
  • National Chocolate Cupcake Day, Oct. 18: My favorite cupcakes are those “orange” ones from Hostess, which are actually yellow.
  • Eat A Pretzel Day, Oct. 22: Make it a big pretzel, nice and salty.
  • National Boston Cream Pie Day, Oct. 23: Never met a Boston Cream Pie I didn’t like. No reason to limit this celebration to just one day.
  • National Chocolate Day, Oct. 28: Is it just coincidence that National Chocolate Day falls just before Halloween? I think not.

2. The Daily Dirt would like to wish the following a happy birthday:

  • Randy Quaid is 72 today. He’s known best for his role as “Cousin Eddie” in the “Vacation” movies.
  • Former St. Louis Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire is 59 Sunday.
  • TV personality Kelly Ripa is 52 on Sunday.
  • Actress Susan Sarandon will be 76 on Monday. She’ll always be Annie Savoy to me.
  • Former “Clueless” star Alicia Silverstone will be 46 on Tuesday.

3. Here’s an update of the world’s highest-paid athletes, according to Forbes magazine:

  • Gold medal: Lionel Messi, Argentina, soccer, $130 million. He’s still no Pele.
  • Silver medal: LeBron James, United States, basketball, $121.2 million. Just promise not to make any more movies, LeBron. Please.
  • Bronze medal: Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal, soccer, $115 million. He may need every dime of that, considering all the legal fees he has going at the moment.
