Daily Dirt for Aug. 31, 2021

Woof! Woof! So … you have a new dog. The Daily Dirt is here to help you find the right name in today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 53 of the Daily Dirt.

1. The American Kennel Club has released its 2021 lists of most popular names for dogs.”Just like baby names, dog names rise and fall in popularity,” according to the AKC. “While naming your puppy may not have the same lifetime significance as naming a baby, it’s a name you and your new dog will be living with for a long time, so it deserves some thought.”The most popular names for male dogs are currently:

A. Max

B. Cooper

C. Charlie

D. Teddy

E. Bear

F. Milo

G. Bentley

H. Ollie

I. Buddy

J. Rocky

Also in the mix: Kobe, Hank, Loki, Ozzy and Gucci.

The most popular names for female dogs are currently:

A. Luna

B. Bella

C. Daisy

D. Bailey

E. Nala

F. Ellie

H. Sadie

I. Ruby

J. Maggie

K. Rosie

Just outside the top 10: Coco, Piper, Oakley, Roxie and Mabel.

“Take a little time to get to know your new pet,” the AKC said. “Sometimes its looks or behavior will inspire the perfect name.”

2. I have discovered — or rediscovered, as the case may be — a couple of nifty snack items.
The first is a package of Lance sandwich crackers with white cheddar cheese filling. I had never seen the white cheddar style until earlier this month. I have only found them at the Dollar General near Staples on Broadway. Secondly, the Nabisco sugar wafers are back. To the best of my knowledge, they are only available at the Hy-Vee on Broadway. These were popular years ago and then disappeared. Welcome back!

3. Things I will probably never do:

A. Drive a stick shift.

B. Get a tattoo

C. Dunk a basketball.

D. Drink coffee. (Although I have a profound love for coffee ice cream and candy.)

E. Play (another) round of golf. (I threw my clubs away in 1979 and have never looked back.)

F. Learn a foreign language. (I took four years of French in high school and graduated without being to form more than two of three sentences.)

G. Put ketchup on a hamburger. H. Or mustard. I. Or mayonnaise.

J. Eat a salad.
