DAILY DIRT: ITS MINE assumes No. 1 In the Great Plate Debate

Daily Dirt for Wednesday April 16, 2025
If you’re not a fan of the Steve Miller Band, you’ll likely enjoy today’s third thought … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 1,258 of The Daily Dirt.
1. There’s a new sheriff in town, fellas. At least when it comes to entertaining license plates.
ITS MINE is now recognized as the cleverest personalized plate in the ongoing Great Plate Debate for West-Central Illinois in Northeast Missouri. Now in its fourth year, the competition governed by The Daily Dirt Board of Control, felt ITS MINE deserved the highest perch atop the Great Plate Debate mountain.
“When we spotted that plate a few days ago, there was no doubt where that gold medal was going,” said Coot “Ring” Lardner, who serves chairman of the Board of Control’s competition committee. “If a plate makes us laugh out loud, it has a chance to be No. 1, and this plate definitely made us laugh.”
ITS MINE knocked SPOKEN 4 out of the top spot.
The current meal stand:
Gold medal: ITS MINE
Silver medal: SPOKEN 4
Bronze medal: MILK DUD

2. Did you know (Part 334)
- That Wendy’s is adding some new Frosties to its menu beginning this week. Both the Vanilla Swirl or Chocolate Swirl will be available with three new sauces: Strawberry, Caramel, Brownie Batter.
- That entertainers Joan Collins and Carol Burnett are both now 91.
- That singer Smokey Robinson is now 85.
- That singer Tom Jones is now 84.
- That singer Engelbert Humperdinck is now 88. (His real name is Arnold George Dorsey.)
3. Longtime comedian Adam Carolla, who has branched out in recent years to host a podcast (“The Adam Carolla Show”), recently unveiled what he feels are the worst songs ever.
Here are a few of the highlights:
“The Girl is Mine,” by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson: “Embarrassing. I mean, for two greats to get together and make that (expletive) … very disappointing.”
“Stuck With You,” by Huey Lewis: “It’s a children’s rhyme. It’s not a real song. I know Huey. He knows that song sucks.”
“Abracadabra,” by the Steve Miller Band: “Horrible. Steve Miller has some of the worst songs ever.”
“Born in the U.S.A.,” by Bruce Springsteen: “Another big, crappy boring slog. It’s too repetitive.”
“I Love Rock and Roll,” by Joan Jett: “Another crappy supposed-to-be-an-anthem for dumb people who don’t really know music. It sucks. Just like all of her songs.”
“I Shot the Sheriff,” by Bob Marley: “It’s the lyrics. I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy. You’re still doing time.”
“Addicted to Love,” by Robert Palmer: “Ugh. It’s a boring simpleton song. Sucks. God rest his soul, but (Robert Palmer’s) a hack.”
Steve Thought O’ The Day — Adam Carolla echoes my exact feelings on Steve Miller and “The Girl is Mine”.
