Daily Dirt for Thursday, July 4, 2024

Happy Fourth of July to all Daily Dirt readers. Enjoy the holiday! .Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 995 of The Daily Dirt.

1. We have a new No. 1 in the Great Plate Debate of 2024. GEM CITI is our new gold medalist when it comes to license plates spotted across West-Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri.

We currently have what is arguably the finest medal stand in the three-year history of this exercise. U DRUNK and CO XIST are the silver and bonze medalists, respectively. All are worthy of a No. 1 ranking (which they once held) — and remember, another former No. 1, US-MALE, was just jettisoned from the rankings when GEM CITI entered.

This week’s rankings:

  • Gold medal: GEM CITI
  • Silver medal: U DRUNK
  • Bronze medal: CO XIST

Honorable mentions from the past seven days:

  • MJ MACH 1
  • FAZFAM 5
  • PNUTS 99
  • DRUMS 24
  • BESS U 2
  • MY3GUY
  • WRITE 8
  • EVEART 1
  • AGENT 92

2. Did you know (Part 56) …

  • Cursive writing, home economics, Latin and shorthand are no longer taught in most public schools.
  • Scott Baio turned down the role of Maverick in the film “Top Gun.” It was eventually offered to Tom Cruise.
  • John Cusack’s role in “Say Anything” was meant for Robert Downey Jr.
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger was the original choice for the lead role in “RoboCop,” not Peter Weller.
  • Charlie Sheen’s character in “Platoon” was designed for Keanu Reeves.

3. The oldest women in professional wrestling, at least in the WWE, are:

  • Trish Stratus, 48 years old
  • Shayna Baszler, 43 years old
  • Asuka, 42 years old
  • Natalya, 41 years old
  • Nia Jax, 39 years old
  • Candice LeRae, 38 years old
  • Charlotte Flair, 37 years old
  • Becky Lynch, 37 years old
  • Carmella, 36 years old
  • Naomi, 36 years old

The ideal women’s WWE title match would be Trish Stratus vs. Charlotte Flair. Agree?

Steve Eighinger writes daily for Muddy River News. His fascination with license plates continues to be remarkable.
