Daily Dirt for Thursday, June 30, 2022

I’m staying with yesterday’s Fourth of July theme because I’m kind of a patriotic guy … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 325 of The Daily Dirt.

1. Thinking out loud here … would any of the following work as an official slogan for the Fourth of July?

“U.S. of YAY”: This is one of those that makes you raise your fist in the air.

“Pies, fries, and the Fourth of July”: I can see this on a banner some day.

“Home of the free because of the brave”: I’ve always liked this. A lot.

“Baby, you’re a firework”: What’s a celebration without a little Katy Perry?

“Home of the brave since 1776”: This is great, simply great.

“Freedom is never free”: AN oldie, but a still a goodie.

“Party like a patriot”: Not bad. Not bad at all.

“Partyin’ like it’s 1776”: Kind of a tribute to Prince, eh?

“I like my coffee black and my tea in the harbor”: Yeah, I smiled, too.

“Suck it, England!”: Either Washington or Hamilton said this as the ships left Yorktown…probably (JRG).

2. The best comment I have heard this week while watching MLB baseball:

“That line drive almost took (Noah) Syndergaard’s buttocks with it into centerfield,” noticed Chicago White Sox analyst Steve Stone. Stone is by far the best analyst on any of the 30 MLB broadcast teams. He is also one of the funniest. Obviously.

3. The best of “Found on Facebook” from the past week:

“The other day I held the door open for a clown. It was a nice jester.”

“I put my grandma on speed dial. I call that instagram.”

“Pasteurize: Too far to see.”

“No matter much you push the envelope, it will still be stationery.”

“Math made simple: If you have $20 and your wife has $5, she has $25.”

Steve Eighinger writes daily for Muddy River News. His thought O’ the day is he wonders how much longer the White Sox will keep Tony LaRussa as manager.
