DAILY DIRT: O.J. Simpson as ‘The Terminator’? Nahhh, he was too nice of a guy
Daily Dirt for Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024
I will most certainly take sway this item from today’s Daily Dirt: That mosquitoes have six legs and 47 teeth … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 1,151 of The Daily Dirt.
1. Let’s start the day with some rather unusual movie-related items you may have missed.
Personally, I think it’s rather lame to classify at least five of the six films in the note about “horror” films as … well, horror films. To me, a horror film is something for akin to “Dawn of the Dead”. The majority of those award-winners listed today should be rebranded as psychological thrillers:
- O.J. Simpson was originally considered to play “The Terminator,” but director James Cameron thought “he was too nice to be taken seriously” as a cold-blooded killer. I’ll just you supply your own commentary.
- Only six horror movies have ever been nominated for a best picture Oscar: “Jaws,” “The Exorcist,” “Silence of the Lambs,” “The Sixth Sense,” “Black Swan” and “Get Out”. I’ll have to split my vote on this and go with a tie between “Jaws” and “Silence of the Lambs”.
- Keeping the theme from above, just three animated films have been nominated for Oscars: “Beauty and the Beast,” “You Story 3” and “Up”. Best one? I don’t really care because I don’t care for animated movies.
- Darth Vader had only 12 minutes of screen time in the Original “Star Wars” movie.
- When adjusted for inflation, “Gone with the Wind” made more than $4.5 billion at the box office, making it (technically) the highest-grossing film in history.
2. Did you know (Part 223)
- That KFC is planning a new string of restaurants called “Saucy!”. The restaurants will feature live music and high tech while featuring all sorts of wild and spicy sauces. At least two new sandwiches will be offered, plus desserts. Among the drinks is a Guava Refresher. The first Saucy! is scheduled to open sometime later this month in Florida. I wonder if the restaurant itself will actually be open … or will you have to drive through for everything like in Quincy? (Psst! Hey, KFC! Covid ended a while ago, Open the joint back up!)
- That in the movie “Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon,” a whopping 532 cars were destroyed.
- That when a crow gets injured or is close to death, other crows in the flock will attack and kill it.
- That mosquitoes have six legs, 47 teeth and most attracted to people with blood type O.
- That studies have found if you tickle a rat daily, it will start laughing when it sees you.
3. The three craziest stat lines in NFL history? I think the following should be considered:
Gold medal: Chargers quarterback Ryan Leaf: One of the game’s all-time busts, Leaf somehow put together a game that saw him go 1 for 15 for four yards, lost THREE fumbles and threw two interceptions. Well, at least he completed that one pass.
Silver medal: Defensive back Jeremy Chinn of the Panthers: Chinn had two fumble returns for a touchdown — on back-to-back plays. Insane.
Bronze medal: Cowboys kicker Brett Maher missed four extra points — in the same game: Obviously, the most missed extra points in a game in NFL history. Obviously, Maher is no longer in the league.
