DAILY DIRT: Richest guitar player in history should come as no surprise

I just wish we could do something about that ‘Wonderful Christmastime” thing … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 1,032 of The Daily Dirt.

1. It’s no surprise that Paul McCartney is the richest guitar player of all time.

After all, that little thing he had going for a few years called “The Beatles” proved to be pretty successful.

But what IS surprising, at least to me, is that McCartney earns $400,000 to $600,000 annually from royalties tied that horrific “Wonderful Christmastime” holiday song. I know, I know … we’ve had discussions about that song before, but every time I hear it, I cringe and want to play a Rolling Stones record.

Here’s a couple of other things to consider about Sir Paul’s ever-growing bank account:

McCartney is a co-owner of the Beatles catalogue, which includes the rights to all of the band’s songs. McCartney earns a significant amount of money from its use and licensing. The catalogue shows up regularly in numerous movies, TV shows and commercials, making it a valuable asset.
McCartney’s solo music career has been hugely successful, with numerous hit albums and singles. He earns money from the sale and streaming of his solo music, as well as from licensing it for use in commercials and other projects. In addition to his music, McCartney has also ventured into other creative endeavors, such as writing children’s books and composing classical music.
