DAILY DIRT: Start the playlist with ‘Moody Woman’ and “I Wish It Would Rain’
Daily Dirt for Monday, June 13, 2022
Sunshine, blue skies please go away. My girl has found another and gone away… Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 312 of The Daily Dirt.
1. June is National Black Music month.
Today we’re featuring our five favorite Black male artists from the 1960s and 1970s:
1. Jerry Butler: The Iceman had an incredible run of hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s after leaving the Impressions. Jerry’s still going strong at age 82. Favorite song: There are just so many … but I’ll go with “Moody Woman” … or maybe “What’s The Use Of Breaking Up” … or “Let It be Me” (with Betty Everett).
2. David Ruffin: He rose to fame as the lead singer of Temptations, but died of a drug overdose at age 50. What an incredible, incredible voice. Favorite song: “I Wish It Would Rain”.
3. Michael Jackson: The early years of Michael were simply phenomenal. Favorite song: “The Love You Save” (with the Jackson Five).
4. Marvin Gaye: Shot by his father at age 44. Favorite song: “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”.
5. Stevie Wonder: It’s hard to believe that Stevie is 72 years old. Favorite song: “I Just Called To Say I Love You”.
2. Best kinds of Kit Kat candy bars’ new flavors?
Here are my picks:
Gold medal: Mocha Chocolate: The first time I tried this one I simply smiled. A lot.
Silver medal: Key Lime: Not quite as good as key lime pie, but it’s close. Serve this one chilled.
Bronze medal: Blueberry Muffin. Not sure if this is a long-term love affair, but right now this relatively new flavor tastes mighty good.
Honorable mention: Dark Chocolate. A perfect match for the old-school Kit Kat fans. This flavor seems like it has been around forever. It hasn’t, of course, but after one bite you and the Dark Chocolate Kit Kat will be like old friends.
3. Some words of wisdom worth thinking about:
- “What’s another word for Thesaurus?” — Steven Wright.
- “People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.” — Isaac Asimov.
- “Political correctness is tyranny with manners.” — Charlton Heston.
- “Marriage is the only war in which you sleep with the enemy,” – Francois de la Rouchefoucauld.
- “A rich man is nothing but a poor man with money.” — W.C. Fields.
Steve Thought O’ The Day — Steve was always a big fan of David Letterman. “Dave once said, ‘Everyone has a purpose in life. Perhaps yours is watching television.’ I felt like Dave was talking directly to me,” Steve said.
Steve Eighinger writes daily for Muddy River News. He ate may Kit Kats while watching Letterman in the 1980’s.
