Daily Dirt: When in doubt, BE A BETH

Be a Beth

Daily Dirt for Friday, July 7, 2023

Could AC/DC music be turning the tide in Ukraine? Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 659 of The Daily Dirt.

1. We have a new No. 1 license plate!

When the entry popped up in my email earlier this week, I knew immediately it was a winner. BE A BETH is now atop the Great Plate Debate 2023 rankings and part of an outstanding medal stand. U LIED and STINK occupy the silver and bronze positions, respectively. U LIED had been No. 1 for the better part of two months.

We had close to 30 entries during the past week, and every one is appreciated. I also gave a lot of consideration to FLASH E for a medal spot, but it fell just shy. Another interesting one that was spotted was FREE LND, which seemed appropriate for the July 4 holiday.

Keep watching for those plates. Keep sending in those accompanying pics when possible.

Here’s this week’s rankings:

  • Gold medal: BE A BETH. I’m still laughing at this one.
  • Silver medal: U LIED. Still going strong.
  • Bronze medal: STINK. The aroma of a winner.

Some of the other top entries of the week:

  • REAL MCY (Real McCoy!)
  • 1 MARV
  • FREE LND
  • CND LOU (Cindy Lou!)
  • BUK 22
  • FLASH E

2. Fun fact: The average number of bones in a cat’s body is 245. In a human, it’s 206. How is that even possible?

3. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently told CNN’s Erin Burnett how he finds ways to have moments of solace amid his country’s war effort against Russia’s invasion. One his favorite ways to relax is to listen to the classic rock offerings of AC/DC.

“Alone I can be with music, it’s true, or with a book,” Zelensky said. “And early, early in the morning, when there are no sounds, no people, nobody … I can just read. Think, think. And the music helps really.”

“I like AC/DC … I don’t understand all the words, (but) I like (the) energy of AC/DC.”

Steve Thought O’ The Day
So, the next time I hear “You Shook Me All Night Long” I’ll smile and pump my fist in honor of Ukraine.

Steve Eighinger writes daily for Muddy River News. Pumping his fist to “You Shook Me All Night Long” would be Steve’s equivalent of international diplomatic relations. Well, he would offer a burger, too.
