Daily Dirt: You have to be realistic with those New Year’s resolutions
Daily Dirt for Dec. 26, 2021
Is it too early to start making New Year’s resolutions for 2022? Nah. … welcome to today’s three thoughts in Vol. 169 of the Daily Dirt.
1. Every year we all make New Year’s resolutions. Some are realistic, some are ridiculous. According to goskills.com, here are the most popular resolutions, with bonus comments from yours truly:
- Exercise more: Probably not going to happen.
- Lose weight: My goal is to simply hold steady. Kind of.
- Live life to the fullest: As long as it doesn’t include exercise.
- Save more money/spend less money: Sounds good, but ..
- Quit smoking: Never have, never will.
- Spend more time with family and friends: Well, as long as they are not annoying.
- Travel more: Why should I travel? I like where I am, and if I want to know what it’s like to be in New York or London, that’s why we have satellite TV, right?
- Read more: As long as it’s about sports, preferably baseball.
2. The latest from the “Overrated/Underrated” Department:
- Overrated: Convertibles.
- Underrated: Any vehicle with a roof. Two reasons: Rain, and other “droppings” from the sky.
- Overrated: Three Stooges
- Underrated: Little Rascals. Spanky was always my favorite.
- Overrated: “The Goldbergs”. None of the characters are appealing in any way, shape or form.
- Underrated: “The Wonder Years”. The show ended in 1993, but to this day remains a fan favorite, thanks to syndication.
3. My top five Johnny Cash songs:
1. “Ring of Fire”: It’s hard to believe the late, great Johnny Cash released this in 1963. That’s 58 years ago for those who have trouble with math.
2. “I Walk the Line”: If you would say this is his best song, I would not argue.
3. “Sunday Morning Comin’ Down”: Kris Kristofferson wrote this song and also had a hit with it.
4. “Jackson” : A great duet with June Carter Cash.
5. “A Boy Named Sue”: How do you do!
