Family Business

So now that it is “social media official,” I am going to comment on my oldest son’s new job.

James Alexander Gough is the senior deputy press secretary for Gov. JB Pritzker.

It is an incredible career move for him. His mother and I could not be more proud of him, as we are of all three of our children.

He’s smart and he works hard. He has his father’s drive and his mother’s heart.

I know the governor isn’t the most popular guy in our neck of the woods, and I don’t agree with many of his policies. My wife, Ellen, pretty much keeps our household free of political conversation when it comes to the kids. Fine by me.

Our children choose their own paths. That’s how it works. Their life is theirs to make the most of. We are here to love and support them.

So if you see me at lunch or having a cocktail and wish to discuss my son’s career in a positive manner, I will gladly talk to you about it as any proud father would.

If you come at me with some snide political bullshit comment, you may get a Logan Roy-esque response.

Let’s all be happy for a Quincy kid being successful and doing what he loves.
