Four years for MRN

Many times when people ask me how long Muddy River News has been around and I tell them, they are surprised.

“Really? Seems like it’s been around for much longer.” Or something along those lines.

So at what point do we become “all grown up”?

MRN turns four this week. Of course, we are still trying to turn a profit, as most startups are in the first few years. Or, as my business parter and friend Jim Rapp often says, “We are successful. We are not yet profitable.”

We are farther along than I thought we would be at this point, but many factors helped contribute to the success we have had so far.

Jim Rapp and Mike Kinscherff have been key with their backing to get us launched, but when it comes to the product itself, it’s pretty simple: We have a great team.

Everybody here brings something different to the table. We pick each other up when needed. We don’t always agree, but we get things done.

Teammates come and go, but we seem to have a great many people who want to pitch in or come aboard and we are always looking at ways to make that happen.

Growth is good.

Our fellow locally owned businesses have supported us greatly and for that we say “thank you.” At a time when many businesses look at marketing/advertising as an early cut, we have had consistently growing support from them. They understand our value to the community.

With other media outlets shrinking or changing owners like they change their socks, we have no plans to do that. I am proud to be a part-owner of this company and, as the nameplate on my desk says:

As always, thank you for reading, watching and supporting your locally-owned news.
