Les Sachs

Les Sachs has been a friend, colleague and neighbor of mine for years.

He and his wife, Linda, just moved out of our posh Woodside Drive neighborhood last year, but he’s been sending us some notes about how much he loves Muddy River News.

These words from the longtime news anchor and director of WGEM are much appreciated.

July, 2021: I just took my first look at your news and its great! You have more news content in one edition than a month of (BRAND X). The quality of your content is easily better than (BRAND X). Congratulations!

It’s great to see a real effort to get back to real news!

Les then sent some story ideas which were solid as always. Some we’ve done, some we have in the hopper.

After David Adam wrote a retrospective on the fatal plane crash at Baldwin Field, Les send a note about a reflection and a mention of another veteran newsman.

November, 2021: The 5pm news on WGEM had just started when one of the staff ran up to the studio to tell me there was a plane crash at Baldwin Field.  We knew that much but nothing on how bad the crash was.  In fact, my first thought was “this is the Quincy Airport, surely it can’t be that bad”.  I was seriously wrong.  We responded as best we could.   Bob Turek gave us more information by phone.  Bob lived in Hickory Grove and saw all the emergency vehicles headed to the airport.  Those were the days when setting up a live shot was a big deal but we finally had live pictures narrated by Shan Whiston late in the show at 6.  We had all the basic information by 10 and a lot more in the weeks ahead when the NTSB came to town.  It was a shock to learn of the extent of lost lives in this crash.

Les

He then sent a note of appreciation on New Year’s Day.

Jan. 1: Thanks to the Muddy River News for continuing to be the most dependable and only solid source of Quincy news. The other news outlets have wrecked staff and have done a poor job presenting what they consider news. Muddy River News returns to the basics of good journalism and we are fortunate to have MRN.

And Les made some observations regarding Monday night’s Quincy City Council meeting where Jason Priest launched an expletive-laced tirade before being escorted from the premises.

That was great video from the council last night. Makes me wonder;  What are the limits of free speech in the council? What finally led the mayor to order the police to carry the guy out? Did they expect beforehand there might be trouble? Has this happened before? What’s to prevent this guy from carrying in a weapon next time? etc…

Les

Thanks to Les and all of you who have been so supportive of Muddy River News during our first year.
