Letter to the Editor: Take a moment to check your flag to make sure it’s in good shape
Now that springtime is upon us and people are getting outside again, I would like to take an opportunity to remind everyone to look at the American flags flying outside of their homes and businesses.
It’s been a long and windy winter and early spring, and our flags can really take a beating. It’s easy to get accustomed to passing by your flag and not paying attention to it until it gets past the point where it should be flying.
Please take a moment to check Old Glory and make sure she’s in good shape. If she’s faded, tattered or torn, replace her with a beautiful new flag.
If you’re wondering what to do with the old flag after you take it down, American Legion Post 37, 116 N. Eighth, has three bins on Eighth Street just for that purpose. Your flag will be respectfully retired by members of Post 37. We have been providing this service for many years and have retired thousands of flags with honor and respect. If the bin is full, feel free to come into the post and drop off your flags.
