No, Muddy River News doesn’t do endorsements

no endorsements

Now that we have stopped accepting “Letters to the Editor” regarding Nov. 8 ballot issues, I would like to add one other item.

Muddy River News does not endorse political candidates.

While I have worked for organizations in the past who have immersed themselves in this process (mostly in an attempt to curry favor for political pet projects) and sat in editorial board meetings, I have never believed a news company should take part in them.

So we don’t.

Now we have and we will continue to produce editorial content to hold politicians accountable for their actions. To serve as an independent monitor of power is a basic tenant of journalism.

On a personal note, I will no longer vote in primary elections. As a former political consultant who still suffers from PTSD over primaries, I don’t like the direction party politics is going on either front. The litmus tests that our polar opposite system now have do not allow any room for compromise.

And only a Sith deals in absolutes.

J. Robert Gough is the publisher of Muddy River News.
