Sports debates are a timeless tradition and we have a doozy for you…
I think the best football team ever was the 1977 Dallas Cowboys, quarterbacked by my childhood idol Roger Staubach and featuring slashing rookie running back Tony Dorsett. Harvey Martin and Randy White led the second generation of the Doomsday Defense after Bob Lilly and Lee Roy Jordan ran Tom Landry’s first successful version of the Flex defense.
I think the best baseball team ever was the 1985 St. Louis Cardinals. They stole more than 300 bases and Jack Clark drove in the jackrabbits who got on base, those being National League Rookie of the Year Vince Coleman and National League MVP Willie McGee. John Tudor, Danny Cox and Joaquin Andujar led the rotation and the bullpen was deep and a promising rookie, Todd Worrell, came up in September to provide a future closer.
Of course, Don Denkinger screwed them out of the World Series championship. I’m just glad they have 11 more now.
Could I be wrong? Sure. But I will argue I’m right.
This area is incredibly passionate about basketball and we have a great debate for you about it over at Muddy River Sports. Our team is taking a look at the last 50 years in small school hoops in Adams, Brown, Pike and Hancock Counties.
