Why this matters

Well, the announcements have been made. Muddy River News is built and growing and we just laid the foundation of Muddy Rivers Sports with the hiring of Matt Schuckman.

Matt and Steve Eighinger join David Adam, Jim Dewey and myself to provide about 200 years of experienced journalism. None of us made the Muddy River Region a pit stop. It’s our home (and our news…and our sports).

Another old hand, Steve Looten, wrote an incredible piece about what Matt means, but what other sportswriters and sportscasters (Steve, Chris Duerr, Don Crim, David Adam, Don O’Brien, Ben Marth, Jeff Dorsey, Mike Moyers, Eric Ervin, Ron Kinscherf, Tim Kinscherf, Bill Shuler, Harold Smith, Jeff Wellman, Chad Duesterhaus, Broc Hampsmire) mean or have meant to our communities when they cover the Panthers, Saukees, Wolves, Tigers, Mustangs, Indians, Cougars, Pirates, Bobcats, Bulldogs, Blue Devils, Raiders, Trail Blazers, Hawks, Wildcats, Trojans, Hornets, Chargers, Tornadoes, Cardinals, Coyotes, Eagles, Titans and Wildcats.

Brittany Boll and some other stringers provide refreshing content with a new perspective. We hope it is an entertaining mix.

We are doing this because we love it. We are doing this because others stopped doing it and there is a need for it.

Now it’s time to sustain them both.

When Jim Rapp, Mike Kinscherff and I started this venture, we wanted to provide quality local journalism with seasoned professionals and also make it free for anyone to read.

So we have been gathering sponsors and advertisers. The response has been great and, I believe, will only grow. But if you don’t have a business, but want to support local journalism, you can do that as well very soon.

Patrons of Muddy River will be our sponsorship page. We will honor those who want to contribute. It will help ensure that quality, locally owned journalism will be here for years to come.

And if you own a business, I’ll be by to see you.
