Mo. State Representatives Greg Sharpe and Louis Riggs.

Missouri State Rep. Greg Sharpe (R-Ewing), has been re-elected for another two years.

Sharpe, who defeated Democrat Melissa Jo Viloria, has been representing Northeast Missouri for six years.

Sharpe said he is thankful for the people in his district, “I’m very grateful to the voters of my district who put me back in, and so I am very, very happy and satisfied. I’ll try to do a good job for all those people.”

Sharpe hoped that his record would speak for itself. He has been a state representative for the last six years. Sharpe said the conservative movement is strong in the rural areas of Missouri.

Sharpe spoke out against Amendment 3, the Right to Reproductive Freedom Initiative, that was on the Missouri ballot Tuesday.

“The voters haven’t really changed their opinion too much,” Sharpe said. “In general… we have been very conservative and staunchly pro-life. Our values have pretty much stayed the same.”

Sharpe’s priorities include boosting the economy, supporting public education, and keeping jobs in his district. He is from Ewing and has lived in Northeastern Missouri his entire life.

“I’m very proud to represent a rural corner of Northeast Missouri,” said Sharpe. “In the last 35 years, northeast Missouri has become heavily Republican, we really haven’t changed our values.”

Sharpe is a supporter of Governor Mike Kehoe, who was elected Tuesday night; he also endorsed former president Donald Trump in the current presidential race.

“He, [Kehoe], is going to be a good leader for the state and engage well with the legislature. There are a lot of issues we need to face,” Sharpe said. “I’m looking forward to my next two years here.”

Louis Riggs (R-Hannibal) also returns to Missouri House. Riggs ran unopposed in District 5.
