Rushville and Pittsfield secure IDOT funds

SPRINGFIELD –Rushville and Pittsfield will receive $1.3 million and $1.6 million, respectively, in state funding to be used for local road improvement projects in their communities.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced May 21 that the two cities were included in 66 different transportation projects statewide to be funded through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP).
“Funding for these projects is competitive. Rushville and Pittsfield are to be commended for being among 66 projects across Illinois that will share $139.2 million in project funding,” Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) said. “These awards are based on community readiness, connection to transportation networks, as well as their ability to secure public support and provide public benefits.”
Rushville is set to receive $1,295,362 to reconstruct Lafayette Street by replacing brick pavers, adding street and pedestrian lighting, rebuilding sidewalks, and streetscaping.
Pittsfield will receive $1,647,091 for the second phase of its downtown reconstruction project, which will widen sidewalks for ADA compliance, add brick paver accents, and add historically accurate street and pedestrian lighting, landscaping, ornamental trees, benches, decorative sign frames and posts.
ITEP provides funding for community-based projects that expand travel choices and improve the cultural, historic, aesthetic and environmental aspects of transportation infrastructure in Illinois communities. IDOT received 233 applications for projects worth an estimated $383 million for this most recent funding cycle.
