Troup touts progress in official campaign kickoff
QUINCY — Although Quincy Mayor Mike Troup confirmed he was running for re-election back in March at the weekly Monday morning meeting with members of the Quincy/Adams County GOP, he officially launched his bid Wednesday night at Dick Bros. Brewery.
Before many of the same supporters who back his winning campaign run in 2021, Troup said much has been accomplished and much still needs to be done. He also touted holding the line on property taxes while investing in infrastructure and paying more into police and fire pensions.
Troup has sparred with the Quincy City Council at times through his first term, but three aldermen were in attendance Wednesday night: Aldermen Ken Hultz (R-3rd Ward), Glen Ebbing (R-5th Ward) and Jake Reed (R-6th Ward).
Troup, who is a Republican incumbent facing a February primary challenge from former Alderman Dan Brink, also had State Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) and State Rep. Randy Frese (R-Quincy) on hand.
Troup acknowledged that he if did win the primary, he would face another opponent in the general election, former City Treasurer Linda Moore, who is running as an independent. He asked the room full of backers for their help in returning him to City Hall.
