Presentation about baseball in Quincy set for 2 p.m. Sunday in Quincy Museum
QUINCY — The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County continues its “Golden Age of Quincy” series with a presentation on baseball through the years in Quincy and a program by St. Louis author Mike Mitchell on his book, “Mr. Rickey’s Redbirds: Baseball, Beer, Scandals and Celebrations in St. Louis,” at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, in the Quincy Museum, 332 Maine.
Mitchell will discuss how Branch Rickey took St. Louis from being a struggling franchise to one of the most dominant teams in the National League. Mitchell will be available after the program for a book signing. Copies of “Mr. Rickey’s Redbirds” will available for purchase at the event.
Rob Mellon, executive director of the HSQAC, will discuss the history of baseball in Quincy. A display featuring vintage Quincy baseball pictures and artifacts also will be featured. The program is free and is open to the public.
