Ask MRN: Carter’s or Sonic?
Dear MRN: What is going at 15th and Broadway? It that where Carter’s is going? It looks like a Carter’s. But I thought Sonic was going there? That doesn’t look like a Sonic and it doesn’t look like a very big lot.
A quick call to the City of Quincy’s planning department confirms what Muddy River News had previously reported: Sonic is going to be built at 15th and Broadway, and Carter’s Coffee Bar is going to be built at Seventh and Broadway. Both businesses are on the north side of Quincy’s main thoroughfare.
Jason Parrott, community development planner for the city, said the main Sonic building is two stories to accommodate the space. The parking lot goes back to the alley, and of course, it will have its customary Sonic drive-up stalls.
Quincy went from three to zero Sonics a few years back. Many Quincy people make regular trips to Hannibal to enjoy the one there.
So it will be interesting to see how successful it is when the new Sonic opens — and if we end up with traffic snarls on Broadway because of it.
