Dear MRN,

What Quincy schools have summer school? What are the speed zone times? How long does summer school last? I just want to know where and when 20 mph speed zones are valid.

Joni Goodwin, public information officer for the Quincy School District, says summer school is in session at Rooney Elementary, Quincy Junior High School and Quincy High School. The speed zone signs at those schools are operating from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Summer school is in session from through June 30.

When I try to leave the parking lot where I work, a car is often illegally parked on the street where the curb is painted yellow. It makes it difficult to pull out into traffic. Does the Quincy Police Department do any monitoring of parking offenders? What should I do?

Adam Yates, chief of the Quincy Police Department, says his officers don’t do much monitoring of parking, especially during the summer and with manpower at low levels. However, that doesn’t mean QPD is ignoring complaints about parking.

“If someone sees a parking violation, or there’s a vehicle somewhere that is causing a hazard, then they are welcome to call the non-emergency number. They can give a description and the plate number, but they don’t have to. We will be happy to respond and try to mitigate the issue or issue a parking ticket, if that’s what’s necessary.”

I read on Facebook about a woman who was at Home Depot this past weekend with her children, and they were confronted by five men. I also heard about other possible abduction scares around Quincy. Should I be concerned?

Yates said the police department received on Sunday a report of suspicious activity that took place on Saturday at Home Depot.

“We collected the information. Nothing criminal was reported to have occurred,” Yates said Monday. “Being aware of your surroundings is always important, and we will respond to reports of suspicious activity.  It is ideal when suspicious activity reports are made as the activity is occurring.”

Yates said no reports of child abductions or attempted child abductions were made to the Quincy Police Department this past weekend.
