QUINCY — Quincy firefighters found a body during a fire on Quincy’s north side early Tuesday morning.

Fire Chief Bernie Vahlkamp said the call came in at 3:47 a.m. and crews responded to the fire in the Fourth and Cherry area, 1021 N. Fourth.

Vahlkamp said the building was a two story machine shed with living quarters on the second floor. The body, a male, was found on the first floor.

Vahlkamp said an investigation is underway and members of the Quincy Fire Department and Quincy Police Department were still on the scene mid-morning to determine a cause. It is not clear at this time if the building was occupied as a residence or just used for storage.

Adams County Coroner Scott Graham will conduct the investigation into determining the cause of death.

Vahlkamp said it took QFD about an hour to put out the fire.
