Bond set at $350,000 for woman who stole police car and two other vehicles

QUINCY — Judge Tad Brenner set bond at $350,000 for a Quincy woman who allegedly stole three vehicles, including a police car, as she led officers on a chase in excess of 100 miles per hour Wednesday.

Mercedes N. Patterson, 25, was in Adams County Circuit Court Thursday afternoon for her bond hearing.

Patterson faces seven counts in the first case, which include theft over $10,000, unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, criminal damage to state-supported property, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with vehicle damage and two counts of criminal damage to property,

Patterson is also charged with five counts in the second case including two counts of burglary, two counts of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing to elude an officer.

Adams County Assistant State’s Attorney Laura Keck asked for a bond of $250,000 in both cases and Patterson’s lawyer, Andrew Mays representing the public defenders office, asked for $100,000 and $75,000 in each of the two cases, respectively.

Brenner set bond at $350,000, $250,000 for the first case and $100,000 for the second.

Patterson allegedly stole a vehicle in Camp Point Wednesday morning, then eluded Adams County Sheriff’s deputies. According to police reports, she hit two parked cars while driving the wrong way on Quincy’s Third Street, which is one way. After wrecking the vehicle, she allegedly took the Quincy Police car.

She was arrested Wednesday afternoon after officers procured a search warrant and entered a residence at 209 Maple.

Patterson would have to post $35,000 to be released from the Adams County Jail, where she is lodged.
