QUINCY — A Quincy man has received multiple sentences following a May conviction for sexual assault and aggravated battery.

Adams County State’s Attorney Todd Eyler said Deviak R. Dailing, 31, of Quincy was sentenced Thursday 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Criminal Sexual Assault consecutive to seven years for Aggravated Battery to Private Security Officer and Aggravated Battery to a Nurse.

Calhoun County Circuit Judge Charles H.W. Burch and Adams County Circuit Judge Scott D. Larson handed down the sentences with Larson sentencing Dailing in the battery case and Burch sentencing in the assault case.

Dailing was found guilty of two counts of Aggravated Battery to a Private Security Officer at Blessing Hospital, one count of Aggravated Battery to a Nurse, and one count of Intimidation by an Adams County jury following a two day jury trial on February 3 and 4. The conviction in this case will be served at the rate of 50 percent truth in sentencing.  That case was successfully prosecuted by Ryan Parker from the Adams County State’s Attorney Office.

Evidence in the case showed that on June 6, 2024 where Dailing committed an act of sexual penetration with the victim with a threat of or use of force to contact the mouth of the victim with his penis.

Dailing was found guilty of Criminal Sexual Assault by an Adams County Jury on May 8 following a three day trial. The conviction in this case will be served at the rate of 85 percent truth in sentencing and is mandatory consecutive sentencing to his sentence in the previous case.  Dailing also faces from 3 years to natural life of mandatory supervised release or what is commonly known as parole.  This case was successfully prosecuted by Laura Keck from the Adams County State’s Attorney Office.

Eyler praised both Ryan Parker and Laura Keck for their work on the cases and for their commitment to seek justice. He added that he wanted to recognize the strength shown by the victim of this sexual assault, and all victims, to come forward and assist in prosecuting such cases.

The mental and emotional toll a victim of criminal sexual assault suffers is only exacerbated by having to participate in a trial, but many times that is exactly what defendants count on – that a victim will not cooperate which only rewards the criminal’s actions by allowing them to escape consequences for their actions,” he said. “Victims who stand up, fight back, and do what they can to prevent a defendant from having the chance to perpetrate their crimes against another person in the future are nothing short of heroes in these cases.”
