Details on Thursday fatal crash in Brown County made available, names released

TIMEWELL, Ill. — More details have been released about a head-on fatal crash on Thursday in Brown County.

The crash happened just after 2 p.m. on U.S. Route 24 at the intersection of Timewell Road, about five miles west of Mount Sterling. The Illinois State Police reports a Toyota Avalon driven by Donna J. Stephenson, 78, of Timewell was westbound on U.S. Route 24, and Chrysler Town & Country driven by Edward P. Dietrich, 62, of Quincy was eastbound on U.S. Route 24 near the intersection of County Road 200 East Street.

The Avalon struck the Chrysler Town & Country head on. Stephenson was pronounced dead at the scene. Edward Dietrich and his father, Richard W. Dietrich, 89, were transported to area hospitals where they were later pronounced deceased.

The Illinois State Police handled the investigation.
