The Quincy Humane Society has selected Pilar Brumbaugh, the organization’s current Community Relations and Fundraising Director as its new executive director. Brumbaugh will succeed Reggie Freel, who is stepping down at the end of July.

“(Brumbaugh) brings a fresh, new perspective to the Quincy Humane Society. With the full support of the board, Pilar will accomplish a great deal.” Freel said.

Freel (pictured left) was a member of the group’s board of directors before becoming executive director in August 2020, replacing the retiring Sally Westerhoff.

Brumbaugh (pictured right) first joined the Quincy Humane Society in November 2014 as the Community Relations Manager serving as the volunteer coordinator, working with the board of directors planning fundraising events and community outreach events.

She left as an employee in 2018 to work in the Quincy University Marketing Department, but then joined the Quincy Humane Society board of directors. In March 2021, Brumbaugh returned as an employee to the Quincy Humane Society.

During the month of July, Brumbaugh and Freel will work on the transition process with staff, board of directors, volunteers, and community members and organizations.

“I truly appreciate the board’s confidence in me and I am looking forward to the opportunity to lead such a wonderful organization,” Brumbaugh said. “The Quincy Humane Society has longstanding support from the Quincy community and surrounding areas, and I know that together we can continue to move this organization forward to continue to provide the best care for our adoptable animals and offer excellent services for the people and their animals of our community.”
