Hannibal School District main campus on soft lockdown for one hour Wednesday morning
HANNIBAL, Mo. — On Wednesday morning, the main campus of Hannibal School District, including Hannibal Middle School (HMS), Hannibal High School (HHS), Hannibal Career & Technical Center (HCTC), and the Annex, was placed on a soft lockdown for approximately one hour.
From Hannibal Public Schools:
The soft lockdown was initiated after a student reported seeing a threatening message on Snapchat.
Although the post did not mention any specific school in Hannibal, we immediately took action and
worked closely with law enforcement to investigate.
Actions Taken:
● All doors were locked, and students remained inside the buildings.
● Learning continued as usual, with no interruption to classroom activities.
We want to assure our community that student and staff safety is our top priority. While the threat
was ultimately deemed not credible, we will continue to take all necessary precautions to protect our
school community. Unfortunately, schools nationwide are experiencing similar threats influenced by
social media trends, and we take every reported threat seriously.
If you see a threatening message on social media, please do not forward or share it. Instead, take a
screenshot and report it directly to school administrators or the police. Sharing unverified threats can
spread confusion and slow down investigations.
Additional Reminders:
● Do not seek answers on social media. If you have questions, please contact the school
directly.
● Help us stop the spread of rumors, which can distort the truth.
