Investigation underway after methamphetamine discovered in Marion County Jail

PALMYRA, Mo. — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office recently launched an investigation following the discovery of methamphetamine being used by inmates within the jail. Authorities became aware of the situation on early Sunday morning and are actively investigating how the substance was introduced into the facility.

After reviewing body scan images, investigators located a suspect image on a recent booking. This image was sent for review and determined, contraband concealed within, as it had been possibly ingested or concealed within a body cavity.

A press release from Deputy Brock Decker with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department said, “Our top priority is the safety and security of both our inmates and staff. We take the presence of illegal substances in our facility very seriously and are committed to holding those responsible accountable.”

As part of ongoing efforts to maintain a secure environment, jail staff is conducting searches and implementing additional security measures. The department is reviewing protocols and procedures to address any vulnerabilities that may have contributed to the incident.

Anyone found to be involved will face appropriate criminal charges.
