Juvenile arrested for having gun near Macomb High School

MACOMB, Ill. – A student at Macomb High School was arrested Friday for having two guns in his car, which was parked within 1000 feet of the school, and having ammunition while on school property.
Macomb High School Staff received information just after 9 a.m. Friday about a student in possession
of ammunition on school property. Staff members alerted the School Resource Officer, and the
student was secured without incident. The student was cooperative and honest throughout the
investigation, according to Macomb Police.
The student had parked his vehicle within 1000 feet of school property but not on school property due to losing their parking privileges and had walked to school. The student had possession of ammunition while on school property and admitted to having two revolver handguns inside his vehicle parked off school property, but within 1000 feet of school property. The student’s parent gave permission to search the vehicle and two revolvers were located.
After interviewing the student and information gathered during the investigation, there were no indications of a threat.
The McDonough County State’s Attorney’s office charged the juvenile with two counts of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Firearm within 1000 feet of a school and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Juvenile Probation officers were contacted to determine whether he would be detained in a juvenile detention center or processed and released. It was determined the student did not merit detention and
was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.
