UPDATE: New London man charged after man shot, killed in Hannibal

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County issued a warrant for John M.R. Kurth , 24, New London, charging him with Second Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action. Kurth’s bond was set at $1,000,000.00 cash only. Kurth remains in the Marion County Jail.   

The Hannibal Police Department reported officers were dispatched at approximately 6:10 p.m. Wednesday to the 1500 block of Broadway after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a 46-year-old male subject who had been shot. Minutes later, officers found Kurth a couple of blocks away and took him into custody without incident.

A press release from the Hannibal Police Department Thursday morning said the shooting victim died at the scene.

“At this time, we believe this to be an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public,” Lt. Jacob Nacke, commander of HPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, wrote in an email sent Wednesday night to local media.
