QUINCY — A spokesman for Marx Commercial Properties and Development Company says construction of a 24,000 square foot building in the Prairie Trails Shopping Center at the corner of 63rd and Broadway likely will be complete by December.

However, you will have to continue waiting to find out what types of business will be in that building.

Property manager Tory Kaufmann says the building likely will be home for six tenants, and he expects them all to be retail outlets. He believes it will be similar to another building to the south, which is home to Great Clips, Snap Fitness, Jen’s Nails, Bard Optical, Bath and Body Works and Buff City Soap.

Kaufmann said Marx didn’t have any tenants lined up when the decision was made to build the latest building in Prairie Trails, and he still doesn’t. Instead, it’s more of a “If you build it, they will come” approach.

“It all started years ago with TJ Maxx and Old Navy,” Kaufmann said. “That east building was about two-thirds vacant up until about a year ago, so seeing that fill up with Buff City and Bath and Body Works certainly raised the interest level. As we were getting that building filled up and having interest in that property from brokers and whatnot, we saw another opportunity. So Tom decided to put up the new building.

“We did not have any tenants signed up before reconstruction, and I still don’t have any news on that. We have a lot of interest, but we don’t have any names to disclose as of yet.”
