CHICAGO — Michael McClain, the long-time attorney, lobbyist and Democratic powerbroker from Quincy who sat at the right hand of the most powerful man in Illinois state politics for decades, received a two year prison sentence Thursday after being found guilty on federal bribery charges in 2023.

U.S. District Judge Manish Shah passed the sentence at around 12:15 from his bench in a courtroom of the Dirksen Federal Courthouse. McClain was with his legal team and family members as he received his punishment.

Shah said, “It is important for the punishment to reflect the harsh fact that this was corruption.”

McClain is to report to prison on Oct. 30. Attorney Patrick Cotter signals he’ll ask for McClain to be allowed to remain free pending appeal.
