One dead after two-vehicle crash Saturday morning on U.S. 24 in Brown County

UPDATE: Brown Co. Sheriff Justin Oliver has confirmed the name of the fatality in the crash as Lena Gibson from Jacksonville.

MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — One person is dead after a two-vehicle head-on crash in Brown County Saturday morning.

Brown County Sheriff Justin Oliver said the crash happened at approximately 6 a.m. The passenger in one of the vehicles, a 41-year-old female, has died. The driver of that vehicle, a male, has been hospitalized. The driver of the other vehicle, a male, suffered minor injuries and was released.

The names of the people involved in the crash have not been released pending notification of the deceased person’s family.

The crash happened on U.S. 24, west of Robert F. Tracy Municipal Airport, about a half-mile from County Road 600E.  The Illinois State Police is investigating the crash and handling reconstruction.
