QUINCY — The Quincy Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 804 S. 8th Sunday
evening that resulted in extensive fire and smoke damage to both structures.

Engine Companies #5, #2, #4, and Incident Command responded on the initial general alarm for two structures on fire. Responding crews observed heavy smoke in the direction of the fire and requested a fourth engine, Engine 3. On arrival crews, observed heavy fire in all levels of 804 S. 8th St. and fire in the attic of 808 S 8th St.

The fire was immediately upgraded to a second alarm bringing Engine #6 to the fire and calling in off duty firefighters to man Engine #7 and Engine #8.

Engine #5 used two handlines and a “deck gun” to slow the spread of the fire and protect near-by structures until the other crews could arrive. Engine #2 on arrival connected to the hydrant at 8th and Washington and set up the Aerial Ladder to knock down flames at the roof. Engine #4 connected to the hydrant at 8th and Jefferson to supply Engine #5 in support of the main fire attack.

As additional crews arrived the buildings were searched. Fire crews in 808 S. 8th found a male victim and removed him to the rear of the building. The victim had minor injuries and was transported by Adams County Ambulance to Blessing Hospital.

All seven Engine Companies remained on scene extinguishing fire and hotspots until just before 1:00 a.m. Monday. Cause and Origin Investigators are in the process of investigating the scene and working to determine the cause of the fire.

In total there were 25 QFD personnel on scene. Assistance was provided by the QFD Rehab Team, Adams County Ambulance, Quincy Police Department and Ameren.
