“No credible threat” at QHS; lockdown lifted

QHS

UPDATE from Quincy Public Schools:

“Following a report of a threat of violence today at Quincy Senior High School, the high school and adjacent Baldwin campus were put into a secure lockout status as school officials, law enforcement and the FBI investigated the incident.

“The secure status has been lifted and students from both campuses will be dismissed as usual, and after school activities will be held as scheduled.

“Local law enforcement and school officials have determined that there was no credible threat to students but will continue to monitor the situation. Please know our highest priority is always the safety and security of our students and staff.”

UPDATE from Quincy Public Schools:

After reports of a threat on social media, Quincy Senior High School Principal Jody Steinke initiated a secure mode and sent out the following email to QHS families notifying them of the threat:

“A short time ago, we were made aware of a threat made toward Quincy High on social media. We are taking this seriously. Currently, we are in secure mode. This means that no one will be allowed to enter the building until further notice. We are working with law enforcement to determine the source of the online threat. We will send more information as soon as we have it.”

Security department staff and law enforcement are working with the FBI to determine the origin of the threat.

Until the situation is considered resolved by the FBI along with local and school officials, QHS and due to its shared campus facilities, Baldwin, will be in secure mode.

We are closely monitoring the situation and are actively working to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We will release more information as it is appropriate.

PREVIOUS REPORT:

Quincy High School is in what is being described as “secure mode” because of an online threat. There was a social media report about a potential shooting threat. People are not being allowed into the building, but they can leave.

Quincy Police and school administration are investigating the situation.

More details to come as they develop from Muddy River News.
