QUINCY —The YMCA of West Central Illinois Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Curtis Sethaler as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective Nov. 1.

Sethaler will succeed Rick Shover, who has been serving as interim CEO.

“We are thrilled to welcome Curtis Sethaler as our new CEO,” said Todd Moore, Quincy Family YMCA board president. “His extensive leadership experience, deep community connections, and innovative approach to youth development make him an ideal fit for our YMCA. We’re confident that under his guidance, our organization will continue to thrive and expand its positive impact on West Central
Illinois.”

Sethaler brings over 15 years of community leadership with local youth. As the Area Director for Young Life in Quincy, Illinois since 2016, he has demonstrated the ability to connect with and motivate individuals through a people-centered approach.

During his tenure, Sethaler significantly has enhanced Young Life’s influence and financial resources by forging strategic partnerships and implementing innovative fundraising strategies. He plans to continue to serve as the leader of both the Young Life and the Adams County CEO programs.

“All of the programs I’m involved with work together for the youth of Quincy and all of the boards supported me wanting to continue with them and foster that collaboration,” Sethaler said. “The Y was on of the first organizations my wife and I joined after we were married, so we were very excited when I applied for the position.”

Sethaler is also a co-founder of Quincy Axe Company and Experience Quincy, showcasing his commitment to community involvement and economic development. His consultancy work, Curtis Sethaler Leadership Solutions, also utilizes his expertise in personal and professional development.

“I am honored and excited to join the YMCA of West Central Illinois as its new CEO,” said Sethaler. “The
YMCA plays a crucial role in our community, and I look forward to building upon its strong foundation.
Together with our dedicated staff, volunteers, and community partners, we will work tirelessly to
strengthen our programs, expand our reach, and make a lasting positive impact on the lives of those we
serve.”

Sethaler holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from Southern Illinois University — Edwardsville
and a Master of Arts in Ministry from Bethel Seminary. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry and
Church Leadership. As a John Maxwell Certified Coach, Speaker, and Trainer, Sethaler brings a wealth of
knowledge in leadership development to his new role.

Moore thanked Shover for his excellent leadership as interim CEO and his assistance in the search process.

“Rick’s dedication and guidance during this transition period have been invaluable,” Moore said. “We’re grateful for his contributions and wish him the very best in his retirement.”
