QUINCY — Jeremy Wingerter, who has been the executive director of the United Way of Adams County since February 2020, has resigned to take another position out of Quincy.

The United Way of Adams County Board of Directors has announced Nancy Bluhm, who was the board’s president, will serve as interim executive director beginning Friday, December 2, the day Wingerter’s resignation is effective.

Bluhm is the former administrator for the Adams County Health Department, where she worked before 26 years before she left in 2012. Bluhm has been a member of the United Way Board since 2016 and has served as board president since February 2022.  She resigned from that role in order to take the interim director position.

Ryan Whicker, chief of business operations for the Quincy Public Schools, succeeds Bluhm as United Way board president.

Wingerter took over for Todd Bale, who resigned amid personal problems which did not directly involve the United Way of Adams County.

After Wingerter’s departure, Bluhm and the United Way staff will continue to oversee daily operations, ensuring United Way’s mission, partners, and campaign continue uninterrupted.

“I am happy with Nancy’s appointment as interim director,” said Wingerter, “It allows us time to work side-by-side over the next few weeks to provide consistency in leadership after my departure.  With her prior experience at the Adams County Health Department and her role as board president, she knows and understands the needs of Adams County.”

“Accepting this role allows United Way’s Executive Committee the time to thoroughly vet the executive director candidates to ensure an ideal person is selected,” Bluhm said.

Applications are currently being accepted and reviewed for the executive director position.
