One dead following Wednesday morning crash on Illinois 57

Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday of two-vehicle traffic accident that occurred on Illinois 57, approximately 1/4 mile south of South 24th Street.

Upon arrival, Deputies located two vehicles in the roadway with major damage. The preliminary investigation indicated that a vehicle traveling south on Illinois 57 had collided head-on with a vehicle that was traveling north on highway. Both the driver and passenger of one vehicle were transported to Blessing Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of those involved as well as additional traffic crash information will be released pending notification of relatives and further investigation by the Illinois State Police.

The crashed caused the road to be closed for several hours, but it was reopened late Wednesday afternoon.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Illinois State Police, Adams County Ambulance Service, Tri-Township Fire Department, Melrose Township, and Illinois Department of Transportation.
