One dead, three injured in multi-car crash on Illinois 104

QUINCY — Five vehicles were involved in a Saturday evening crash with one fatality and three people being taken to Blessing Hospital.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Department released Sunday evening the name of the person who died in the crash. Joe Strieker, 40, of rural Quincy was pronounced dead at the scene by the Adams County Coroner.

Other victims were treated and released on scene by the Adams County Ambulance Service.

Just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the multiple vehicle crash on Illinois 104 east of Meyer Road and just east of Quincy.

The cause of the crash in currently under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Illinois State Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit, but icy conditions may have played a part.

The Sheriff’s Office asked drivers to avoid Illinois 104 throughout the night. An alternate route around the traffic crash scene would require drivers to travel east on State Street until you come to County Road East 1323, which is the first hard road that runs North once you enter the village of Burton. Travel north on East 1323 until you get to Rock Quarry Road. Travel east on Rock Quarry Road until you reach Burton Road (approximately 100 yards) then head north. Burton Road will take you to Illinois 104 on the other side of the crash site.

Illinois 104 was reopened just before midnight.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by: The Quincy Police Department, The Illinois State Police, The Adams County Ambulance Service, Tri Township Fire Department, IDOT, Quincy Central Services, and Burton Township Road Commissioner.

Further information will be released as the investigation continues.
