Court approves Jason Priest to have mental fitness exam
QUINCY — A day after being removed from Judge Tad Brenner’s courtroom for his behavior, a little quieter Jason Priest found out he was going have his mental fitness examined by a psychiatrist.
Assistant Public Defender John Citro requested his client go before Dr. Terry Killian before Priest’s next court appearance, set for June 22.
Priest, who was in the Adams County Jail on multiple misdemeanor charges, was charged with a felony after allegedly destroying a phone in a kiosk in the jail.
Criminal Damage to Government supported Property is a Class 3 Felony when the alleged damage to property is more than $500.00 but less than $10,000.00. A Class 3 felony is punishable by 2 – 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with fines and cost of $25,000.
In addition to the felony, Priest is also charged with one count of reckless conduct, a Class A misdemeanor, and three counts of disorderly conduct, all Class C misdemeanors, connected to his conduct in public outside of his 2309 State Street.
The Class A misdemeanor is punishable for up to 364 days in jail and as much as a $2,500 fine. Each Class C misdemeanor charge is punishable for a minimum of two days in jail or 30 hours of public service, and up to 30 days in jail. He could be fined $1,500.
Brenner set Priest’s bond at $5,000 on the Class A misdemeanor and $2,000 for the Class C misdemeanors.
