New command leaders at Salvation Army worked 10 years ago in Quincy in youth, family ministries

QUINCY — The Salvation Army Quincy Area Command will have change in leadership beginning June 28. 

Capts. Rich and Linnea Forney, serving as corps officers in Elgin, will replace Majs. Trevor and Shelly McClintock as The Salvation Army Quincy Area Command Leaders and Senior Kroc Officers. The McClintocks have received appointments as divisional commanders at The Salvation Army Wisconsin Upper Michigan Division in Milwaukee, Wis. 

“I’m excited to return and join the staff and advisory board in leading the ongoing ministries taking place in Quincy,” Linnea said in a press release. “We are honored to once again be appointed here and look forward to seeing the changes since we left 10 years ago. The Quincy Area Command’s leadership team is nationally recognized throughout The Salvation Army. It’s a privilege to rejoin this team.”

“Capts. Rich and Linnea are the best of the best,” Shelley McClintock said. “They have proven themselves to be capable, creative and committed Salvation Army officers. We are thrilled to support them as they take on this new challenge and opportunity.  We know they will lead and serve The Salvation Army Quincy Area Command with distinction.”

The Forneys have been officers in The Salvation Army for 12 years. They previously worked for The Salvation Army for almost 20 years in youth and family ministries in Elgin, Aurora and Quincy. 

“We are so blessed to be returning to Quincy and serving the surrounding communities,” Rich Forney said. 

The Forneys have been married for 30 years and have two adult children. Linnea is from Escanaba, Mich., and Rich calls Chicago home, although he’s lived in North Dakota, Michigan, Kansas and Argentina. They have been on several mission trips and love youth ministries. 

Linnea is completing her bachelor’s degree in practical ministries. She operated state-licensed childcare facilities for 15 years before becoming an officer. Rich has a master’s degree in pastoral leadership and a bachelor’s in practical ministries from Olivet Nazarene University. He recently returned from the six-week International College for Officer Training in London with international leaders and 40 delegates.
