Letter to the Editor: Anti-abortion campaign receives honks of praise and cheerful waves, plus jeers and lemons

The 40 Days for Life Campaign is well under way and shows no sign of slowing.

Volunteers show up every day, except on Sundays, holding signs in prayer to end abortion across the nation. This is done locally at Walgreens because they have decided (along with CVS and RiteAid) to provide the two abortion pills, mifepristone and misoprostol, to women seeking abortions. The campaign continues through Lent, ending on March 24.

While walking for the campaign, I have been taking note of the stark difference between both sides of the abortion debate. One side is fighting to protect babies in the womb, and the other is fighting for a “right” that doesn’t exist and completely ignores the human child growing inside.

They will use terms like “reproductive choice” and “healthcare rights” to describe abortion. It is standard protocol to call a baby in the early developmental stages “just a clump of cells” or “a parasite” — a semantic game used to dehumanize children and disguise the reality of abortion, the murder of a helpless child. This is the collapse of the sacred into the profane.

There have been many pleasant interactions throughout the campaign — positive honks of praise, cheerful waves and countless thumbs-up out of windows. There also have been lemons thrown out of windows at people, along with insults and a few “F@#% Yous.” This again seems to be standard practice for the pro-aborts.

Then there is the constant gatekeeping of who can participate in the conversation. I’ve heard, “You’re a man. You should not be telling women what to do with their bodies.” I’ve even heard some say that women outside of childbearing age shouldn’t have a say in the discussion. It’s clear that at the end of the day, the only people they believe should be involved are those who share the same opinion as them — abortion at will, anytime, for whatever reason.

Let’s look at the people they hold in high regard as well. Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, was a devout eugenicist and racist, wanting abortion to be widespread in the black community. Once she wrote, “We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”

Another group they hold high as upstanding citizens is known as “The Janes.” They were a group of women, pre-Roe v. Wade, who illegally assisted more than 11,000 women in the killing of their unborn babies. Voices for Choice will even be hosting them at the Quincy Public Library on March 2.

Both the mother and the child need our help. Our community, churches and crisis pregnancy centers, are here to assist mothers in any way possible.

Abortion is not the answer. Abortion is murder. Murder is not a right. No mother has the right to kill their child.

The choice is yours. Who do you fear more? God? Or a culture far removed from truth and rabid with a desire to fundamentally deceive you?
