Letter to the Editor: Be sure to thank doctors for commitment, compassion on Saturday

It seems our society is short on selflessness these days.  Selflessness is “giving to others without looking for personal gain.”

Thankfully, in healthcare, you’ll find teams of selfless people led by doctors. This area is blessed with many skilled physicians, including those practicing at Blessing Health. After multiple years in training, these doctors joined the Blessing team to improve the health of our communities. They are committed to delivering safe, high-quality care to all in need.  We thank them for their commitment and compassion on Doctor’s Day on March 30.

Blessing Health doctors delivered 321,000 primary and specialty care visits last year and 46,000 emergency visits. They were part of the physician team serving the region that delivered 15,000 surgeries and more than 474,000 inpatient and outpatient hospital encounters.

Choosing to be a doctor is an ongoing commitment to give patients undivided attention and, through ongoing education, ensure that they receive the best treatment available.  This is not just a job for doctors. They are driven by a passion to do all they can to address the suffering of their fellow human beings. 

This is selflessness.

The next time you see your doctor, please thank them for being there for you.
