Letter to the Editor: Weekend concert could be beginning of something epic in Gem City

This past weekend, the Tri-States were fortunate to again have access to world-class entertainment hosted right here in Quincy in your parks.

Many thanks to Scott Edlin and his team, and everyone from promotions to tickets to trash pickup, for a job well done. I’m especially proud of the Park District team under Rome Frericks. They moved mountains to support this momentous undertaking.

Seeing that many people in one location started my wheels turning. Perhaps, this is the beginning of something epic in the Gem City.

Maybe the hard work of those who have come before us is coming to fruition. As our city sheds its somewhat archaic way of thinking, new ideas and new growth are beginning to take shape.  

Some will say, “It’s just a concert,” but it’s more than that.  It’s a concept. A way of doing things differently to get a different, better result. I hope others around me are listening.

Quincy is ready to grow. Quincy is ready to think outside the box and do something major. They’ve been craving it long before I ever set foot across the bridge. There’s no better time than now.

Let’s use this momentum to influence how we create larger events, build infrastructure and attract businesses to town. If you looked out on that crowd, you would think that if Quincyans could put their heads together and generate this kind of energy, there’s nothing we can’t do.

See … we can have nice things.
